The new single from Bad Sounds is the uplifting, slightly unfortunate yet appropriately titled, ‘More Than I Can Afford’. The verses are built around funky beats courtesy of a tight drum kit that interweaves with detailed bass lines, before expanding subtly into a huge singalong hook thanks to bright piano chords and those reverb-drenched backing vocals. The instrumental break that links the track’s different sections is a laid-back, almost Jungle-inspired groove underpinned by a gritty, thick bass synth sound. Over the last few years, the band have put out a selection of EPs that track their evolving sound. Each and every one is worth checking out. -Dan Peeke
